Help & Guides

Everything you need to get the most out of Locket — from adding your first piece to sharing collections and keeping your vault organized.

Locket is your personal digital vault — a private place to catalog, value, and organize your jewelry, watches, handbags, art, and other treasured items, and to share them securely with people you trust.

  • Add your first piece — head to New Piece and follow the short three-step wizard: photos, details, then documents.
  • Create a collection— group related pieces (e.g. “Engagement” or “Heirlooms”) from New Collection.
  • Browse your vault — your My Vault page holds everything you own in one searchable, filterable view.

A piece is a single item in your vault. The create and edit wizards walk you through everything below.

  • Photos & video— up to 5 images (JPG, PNG, or WebP, max 20 MB each) and 1 video (MP4, max 200 MB). At least one image is required.
  • Crop & zoom — when you add a photo, a 4:3 crop tool lets you frame it exactly. Re-crop any time — your original is preserved.
  • Cover photo— the first image becomes the cover automatically; you can change it later. Videos can’t be used as a cover.
  • Details — Title, Description, Type, Sub-Type, and Brand/Maker. Type and Brand come from curated lists, but you can always enter your own.
  • Tags — add as many as you like; create them on the fly and reuse them across pieces.
  • Status— a single, optional state such as “For Sale”, “Insured”, or “On Loan”. Create your own and reuse them.
  • Acquisition details — the date you acquired the piece and where you got it.
  • Appraised value— the item’s estimated worth, entered and shown in US dollars.
  • Documents— attach a Certificate, Receipt, Insurance document, or Other (PDF, JPG, or PNG, max 50 MB each). Documents stay private to you.
To edit or delete a piece, open it from your vault and use the actions on the detail page. Deleting a piece removes its photos and documents for good — this can’t be undone.

Collections are named groups of pieces. A piece can belong to more than one collection.

  • Create & add — make a collection from New Collection, then add pieces to it.
  • Cover image— choose which piece’s photo represents the collection.
  • Manage pieces — add or remove pieces from a collection at any time.
  • Export to PDF — download a polished PDF of a collection. Choose page orientation, which fields to include, and how many items per page — handy for insurance or estate records.

Share a piece or a whole collection with someone — read-only, always under your control.

  • Share with a Locket user — send a share by their email; they get a notification and can accept or decline.
  • Invite someone new— share to any email address. They’ll get an invitation to join Locket, and the share is waiting once they sign up.
  • Read-only access — recipients can view, but never edit, delete, or re-share your items.
  • Sharing a collection — grants access to every piece in it, including ones you add later.
  • Revoke any time — remove a share and the recipient immediately loses access.

  • What triggers them — share activity (received, accepted, revoked), invitations, and announcements from the Locket team.
  • In-app — the bell in the header (and the Notifications tab on mobile) shows everything in real time.
  • Email preferences — choose which notifications also arrive by email in Settings. In-app notifications are always delivered regardless.

Manage your account from Settings.

  • Profile — update your name, username, and avatar.
  • Password — change your password at any time.
  • Appearance — choose Light, Dark, or System theme.
  • Install the app — add Locket to your home screen or desktop for an app-like experience (PWA).
  • Delete account — permanently remove your account and all of your data.
